Premiere on September 21 Andor it’s fast approaching. The series will take fans back to the early days of the Rebel Alliance before Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor’s noble sacrifice in Cheater One. Beyond that, there is so much to look forward to in the coming year Star Wars Fans.
As part of the weekend’s celebration of all things Disney, Lucasfilm revealed new information, art and footage for the six upcoming series at D23. Many fans created a buzz about the event, and to no avail Star Wars movies came out, he was still distributing. Those in attendance enjoyed all the excitement, but fans around the world took to Twitter to keep up with all the news and react to every bit of it.
What day!
Overall, this panel was enlightening. Whether in Anaheim or elsewhere, fans were treated to plenty of new information and footage, including a final trailer for Andor. Of the projects expected to be introduced, six emerged in prominent ways, while others are still gaining attention elsewhere.
From casting announcements to new trailers, D23 had something for almost every genre Star Wars fan – except those who only like Star Wars films, they were surprisingly abandoned, not to mention Taika Waititi’s or Patty Jenkins’ film Rogue Squad.
Back with our Favorite Space-Faring Duo
The biggest thing that came out of the panel was the official release of The Mandalorianseason 3 trailer. This was first shown back in May at Star Wars Celebration, but it was only for attendees, and honestly, it looks epic. Some highlights from the footage are the return of Babu Fright and Bo-Katan.
Din Djarin and Grog are on their own again after Din was exiled from his clan and Grog chose to leave Luke Skywalker’s school, but now their adventures take them to the ruins of Mandalore. The show will now delve deeper into Mandalorian lore, culture, and history, and perhaps now that he’s not restricted by the arcane rules of his clan, Dean can take off his helmet more.
Did I miss something?
Of course, the big draw for Season 3 is seeing Mando and Grog together again, but some might be confused if they didn’t watch it. The Boba Fett Book. The spin-off series certainly didn’t have the appeal of its predecessor, but it did see them reunite during the finale. This was even after two Mando-centric episodes in which Boba Fett was a supporting character in his show.
There’s time to catch both now, as many noticed that a release date wasn’t included in the trailer. It was originally planned to be released in February 2023, but in light of Bad groupdelay which is likely to be pushed back.
It’s finally happening!
One of the biggest announcements for Star Wars it was actually done in front of their panel. It has been announced that Eman Esfandi, recently seen in King Richard, will star young rogue-turned-rebel-turned-Jedi artist Ezra Bridger. He joins Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who plays Sabine Wren, Ezra’s friend and potential lover from rebelsalong with undisclosed actors such as Hera Syndulla and Chopper.
This was such a surprise, but something fans have been waiting for since Ahsoka first appeared The Mandalorian in search of Admiral Thrawn, who disappeared with Ezra long ago rebels final. This raises the question of who will join the live-action universe from animation – the video game side also has some strong contenders.
Nothing for fans of the bad band
Amidst all the joy, there was some disappointing news, although this comes with a caveat. Although still scheduled for this year, Bad group Season 2 was pushed back again to 2023. Thankfully, though, it premieres on January 4th. Animated spin-off on The Clone Wars was a bit of a dark horse when it launched, but quickly gathered a dedicated fan base.
The season trailer was first released at Star Wars Celebration, so it was strange that nothing new was shown at D23. However, that could still come soon. Even from what’s been shown, there’s plenty to get excited about including the return of Gungi, the young Wookiee, and Commander Cody, the Clone Trooper who served alongside and then betrayed Obi-Wan.
Ahsoka fans are eating
until Bad group was postponed, this does not mean Andor it’s all that’s left Star Wars in 2022. In fact, on October 26, all six shorts from Tales of the Jedi will drop on Disney+. It was already something that many fans were very eager for.
Ahsoka will be the central figure for three of these shorts detailing important moments in her life. Fans will see her as a child when she first demonstrates her affinity with the Force, then as a padawan training with Anakin and the Clones—developing skills she perfects to rival Darth Vader—and finally as a raised following Order 66.
20 years waiting
The next protagonist for Tales of the Jedi it’s Count Dooku. As with Ahsoka, it will feature him throughout his complex life and most importantly it will also feature new characters such as Yaddle, Yoda’s female Jedi and Grog’s mysterious race – although it may reveal that he was responsible for the death her.
His episodes will follow his descent to the dark side to become Darth Tyranus and his relationship with his padawan, Qui-Gon Jinn. Hopefully this won’t be the only season Tales of the Jedi and how VISIONMight go back to explore more Jedi stories – there are many that deserve a special treatment in something like this or a “What If…” type of story.
Jude Law’s Got a New Franchise
Also at Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm announced The skeleton crewthe new Disney+ series starring Jude Law and created by Jon Watts – remembered for directing the MCU Spider Man movies. At D23, they shared an image of Jude Law’s character, which quickly circulated online.
Some had originally theorized that he could be playing Admiral Thrawn since the show is set at the same time as The Mandalorian, but this is not happening. This gives hope that Thrawn’s voice actor, Lars Mikkelsen – Mads Mikkelsen’s brother – could play him. The skeleton crew is still slated for release in 2023 and will be a coming-of-age story largely following a group of lost children.
A new star for Star Wars
Just as the casting of Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger shocked fans, so did the news that Lee Jung-jae is joining the cast of Acolyte. He is rightly rated the best Squid game, but he had a great career in South Korea before that. He is teaming up with Amandla Stenberg and Jodie Turner-Smith in this dark and mysterious thriller set during the High Republic.
It’s a shame Acolyte didn’t get much attention at D23, but that’s something. It is certainly more than for those who are Lando or of Rangers of the New Republicwhich have not been touched since they were first announced.
Something For Everyone
A recent information from Star Wars was held after their panel, giving fans a look at the characters for the new animated series set during the High Republic, The Adventure of the Young Jedi. It’s clearly aimed at kids and the characters look cute.
It could be a great way to introduce younger audiences to the franchise without having to deal with some of the more mature elements. So far, two characters have been publicly cast, Kai Brightstar, a young Jedi, and Nash Durango, a young pilot, voiced by Jamaal Avery Jr. and Emma Berman respectively.
