Season 6 of the hit sci-fi series Rick and Morty was released in early September, with more episodes to follow soon. The premiere saw the situation Rick and main Morty were in after the success of Evil Morty’s plan to escape the ultimate Central Curve.
It seems that season 6 i Rick and Morty will have a more coherent plot than previous seasons and focus on a central antagonist, but nothing in a series like Rick and Morty is insured. Fans on Twitter were quick to share their reactions and comments on the first episode: Solaricks. The episode featured the current main antagonist of the series, “Evil Rick” who took the main character Rick’s family from him.
9 New hype for the topic
While some animated series, especially anime, choose different opening themes each season, Rick and Morty stands on the same iconic track. To spice things up, the theme changes most of its imagery outside of the eldritch demon at the bottom.
Having steady music with rolling images isn’t the most unique concept. game of thrones, the forerunner of the new House of the Dragon the series, which has also taken Twitter by storm, also has an iconic theme that gets fans buzzing. Other animated series for adults like Bojack the Knight have taken the same approach, and it’s a winning formula. It’s clear that Twitter users are hyped to see the opening back in action.
8 The Pooping Place
It is possible at this point to be only brave Rick and Morty fans and recent rewatchers will remember Season 4 Episode 2 of Rick and Morty: “The Old Man and the Seat.”
The episode featured a comedic fight between Rick and an alien who invaded the secret planet he uses specifically to use the toilet. The feud ends in a surprising level of tragedy and further highlights Rick’s tendency to go completely overboard when it comes to even the smallest of vendettas. In a photo from the Season 6 premiere, many fans spotted the same planet in a photo in Rick’s home universe. This begs the question: how long has Rick been doing his business on the same planet?
7 A perfect way to kick things off
Rick and Morty has always been notorious for killing off hundreds of versions of its protagonists, so it was fitting that the current main family would take out and replace other versions of themselves from the new universe they chose to call home.
There were answers asking how Space Beth also had a body to bury. Apparently, in all the different universes, it was possible for the original Beth to have clones in multiple other realities. The family likely chose one of those realities specifically for Space Beth so that she would also have a living version of herself to replace. Of course, there are still two important Rick and Morty clones left alive: Evil Rick and Evil Morty.
6 Spoilers without context
Season 6 of Rick and Morty kicked off with some pretty memorable and enjoyable moments, and Twitter users were quick to poke fun at some of the episode’s highlights, particularly the Marvel Cinematic Universe jokes.
Morty asking why Rick pretended not to know who Iron Man was is a funny nod to Rick’s constant need to appear indifferent no matter what the topic is. Summer’s Wolverine Claws was another popular gag of the season. Of course, the Sanchez family that buried their counterparts was also very haunted. Finally, the “parmesan” cheese joke about how little things change across universes was a fun joke.
5 No one leaves Twitter
It was a funny joke to compare Evil Morty leaving the finite Central Curve to a person leaving Twitter. However, some Twitter users believe that the metaphor between Twitter and the Last Central Curve goes even deeper.
It’s no secret that Rick is addicted to being around. It has been mentioned time and time again that despite Morty’s disappointment, he keeps coming back. Partly, of course, because, deep down, he loves his grandfather. However, it’s also possible that it applies to Evil Morty as well. If Evil Morty returns, it might be because the worlds where Rick isn’t the smartest being in the world just aren’t as exciting as the ones in the Last Central Curve.
4 Commitment to history
There are many similar Geat shows Rick and Morty there, but few of them follow the episodic nature of the show mixed with the random continuity of the plot. It’s a weird formula and fans don’t always like it.
While stand-alone episodes that don’t commit to any ongoing plot can be entertaining, many of the best episodes of Rick and Morty are those that focus on a story and either set up or conclude important events throughout the show. Season 6 Episode 1 was Rick and MortyHis story at its best and was a great follow up to the heavy season 5 finale. After all, story engagement is something many fans on Twitter are excited to see.
3 Bad Rick fan art
Evil Rick is definitely the most powerful being that fans have met so far Rick and Morty. He’s certainly taken Twitter by storm, and many fans are posting their own villainous Rick fan art that gives the title character competition for the title of “Rickest Rick.”
It remains to be seen if the new antagonist will be a threat during the season or if the season will take the usual route of not having a central antagonist. However, seeing as this Rick is the catalyst for the main character Rick’s story, it would be strange if he wasn’t a big part of the show going forward. One thing’s for sure: when the two Ricks have their final showdown, it’s going to be one of the biggest moments on the show.
2 The dead Smiths
Looks like there are more episodes Rick and Morty where a Sanchez or Smith dies than not. However, it is rare to see a familiar family member die. Sadly, this is the case for the Smith family of the main original universe of Morty: The Cronenberged Dimension.
The Cronenberged dimension had only three human inhabitants: Jerry, Beth, and Summer. It was also the homeworld of Evil Rick, the real Rick of the main Morty. Tragically, Beth and Summer died off-screen, according to the Cronenberged Dimension Jerry storyline. Then, towards the end of the episode, Evil Rick shot the Cronenberged Dimension Jerry and ended the original Smith family once and for all.
1 Best season premiere yet?
Season 6 was a very unique season opener for the franchise. Season 3 arguably had the heaviest plot opening before Season 6, with the heartwarming episode “The Rickshank Rickdemption” emphasizing Rick’s humanity and desire to save his family.
Whether “Solaricks” is superior to the previous five premieres is still up for debate. However, there is a strong case for the episode to be among the best in the franchise. It was a perfect follow up to the season 5 finale and gave the audience a glimpse of the Rick that started it all. Fans on Twitter, as with any show, have had mixed reactions. However, many seem to be excited about the direction the season is heading.
