Disney+’s Andor has finally reached the masses on the streaming platform with a delightful three-episode premiere and has already become one of the highest rated series in Star Wars universe on Rotten Tomatoes since then The Mandalorian. So far, the fan consensus is overwhelmingly positive about Cheater One prequel that chronicles Cassian Andor’s rise from thief to rebel, with a solemn tone and grittier atmosphere distinct from the others Star Wars the content.
With nine more episodes planned and expectations so high, fans will be closely following the emotional adventure of Cassian and his ally and it won’t be the last with another season in development. It was a smart decision to release the first three episodes at once to entice audiences as they flow seamlessly and deliver strong introductions to the tone and characters that fans will be familiar with for the next nine weeks. Cheater One was a special gem for the franchise when it came out, and Andor seems to be getting the same response from fans.
A cinematic experience at home
It is important to note that Andor they will naturally feel different from being liked The Mandalorian, The Boba Fett BookAND Obi-Wan Kenobi for the simple fact it doesn’t happen on Tatooine. Beyond that, the rhythm, tone and aesthetics within Andor so far it feels more like a movie than a TV show, of which Diego Luna has stated that the series was developed as a feature length film split into twelve episodes (via THR ).
Another reason Andor is unique among its siblings is that it was not filmed using Volume – a video wall in which the background image is projected during filming to give the most authentic visuals. This technique has become the standard for Star Wars television starting with The Mandalorian and it has begun to appear elsewhere as within House of the Dragonbut Andor not using it keeps it more in line with how Cheater One was filmed.

The music of Star Wars is iconic thanks, of course, to John Williams, but Cheater One it was the first film in which he was not the main composer. Michael Giacchino – recently known for composing Batmanhis grade and for directing Wolf in the night – took that role, but for AndorNicholas Britell has that honor. He is an award-winning composer whose work for Legacy, MoonlightAND Don’t look up many fans will recognize him.
Andor seems to be another feather in its cap, especially for the title and main theme as this viewer pointed out. The sequence is not as grand or extravagant as such game of thronesbut its simplicity and power still resonated with many fans.
The rise of a rebel
Of course, the star of the series, Diego Luna in the role of Cassian Andor, has received a lot of attention from fans. Compared to the likes of Luke Skywalker or even Han Solo, Cassian is a morally gray character, but that’s what made people like him. As these memes prove, Andor is a bit of a weakling, but these first three episodes have given fans a lot to relate to personally.
Now, they’ve learned a lot more about Cassian’s origins as a thief and how he became the brave rebel willing to give his life for the cause. More importantly, the emotional core of the flashbacks has resonated with many, learning that Cassian comes from a now inhospitable planet as one of its remaining survivors. Fans will be keeping an eye on his transformation and wondering where in his life he will be at the end of the season, especially if, as Fraudster, many of his cast mates don’t make it to the end.
A Clever Retcon to Kasian’s Story
Something that people have come to connect with deeply Star Wars is reconciling. Darth Vader being Luke’s father and Leia, his sister, were created as retcons, but now they are so ingrained in the culture and fans that learning can be surprising. However, in the case of Cassian’s story, it’s a bit more of a complicated situation, but Andor deftly handled it to share that what fans know is not the truth.
Forward Andrew, those who knew Cassian’s ancestry believed he was born on the planet Fest in the outer rim. Still. it was all a lie concocted by Cassian’s adoptive mother, Maarva – played by Fiona Shaw of Harry Potter AND Phlebaba fame – to keep it safe. He is actually from Kenari, and this re-contact opens the door to an unexpected mystery of what happened to his home and people.
A new Droid icon – Bee
It wouldn’t be a new one Star Wars tell if there wasn’t also a new droid to love, B2EMO. Like the best droids in the entire franchise, B2EMO – or Bee as Maarva and Cassian call him – has demonstrated a personality, though it’s not as bold as R2-D2, K-2SO or L3-37. He can also talk, voiced and directed by Dave Chapman, who also puppeteered BB-8 throughout the sequel trilogy.
When Andor was originally announced, many fans expected Alan Tudyk to also return as K-2SO. That’s not the case as far as the general public knows about Season 1, but surely, it will come into play down the line. In the meantime, fans have an awesome new droid, B2EMO, to enjoy.
I can’t wait to learn more about Luthen Rael
Beyond Luna and Shaw, the cast for Andor is packed with unique talent, including the fantastic Stellan Skarsgård playing Rebel Alliance contact Luthen Rael. He’s no stranger to major franchises, having been a part of the MCU and Dune recently and has many impressive accolades to his name, and it will be exciting to see him in the middle of the action in Andor.
The first three episodes didn’t dig deep into his backstory, but he’s someone Andor and Bix can trust. Interestingly, some fans have noted from a TV spot showing an upcoming episode that he may have a connection to a former Jedi, Plo Koon, in that it features a breathing apparatus similar to the one Plo wore. Therefore, Luthen could potentially be merged Andor for the rest of it Star Wars canon without actually featuring any Jedi or lightsabers.
Syril Karn Another in a long line of great star wars villains
Star Wars there’s no shortage of compelling and fantastic villains, but Kyle Soller’s Syril Karn could be something quite special. He doesn’t have the strength to back him up like Darth Vader or Kylo Ren, nor the ultimate authority of Grand Admiral Thrawn or Director Krennic, yet he has an ominous presence about him. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said at D23 that Syril will be another villain that fans will love to hate (via D23), but many are finding him quite intriguing.
From his choice to style his uniform to his edgy yet relentless energy, Syril is a delightful addition to the long line of Star Wars antagonists. Already, he’s being set up as a rival and frustration to Cassian and the show’s deuteragonist, so some think he might end up defecting to the Rebel Alliance. Regardless, it will be a lot of fun to see how he evolves over the course of this season and beyond.
Kasiani has a sister?!
Along with his changed history and a new home planet, fans also learn that he has a sister and she is missing. Many people did not theorize this shocking result Andor, with some predicting that characters like Ahsoka or Agent Kallus would appear. Nevertheless, this is a very compelling development. According to what was shown in the first three episodes, he was taken by Maarva and her husband Clem Andor and the inhabitants of Kenar were supposedly killed.
The question arises as to what happened when Cassian, then as Kassa, was separated from his group. He might have returned to Kenari at some point to see if his sister was still there, so it’s very likely that she and the rest of their people—interestingly all the children and teenagers—could have been captured by the Empire. .

Naturally, in response to those episodes, many fans are eager to see more of what director Tony Gilroy has up his sleeve. Some have said they wish he would do more Star Wars content like Andor AND Cheater One – maybe he can create his own mini-franchise like Jon Favreau has The Mandalorian and its spin-offs. Others say they want more people with Gilroy’s tone and approach.
Regardless, his work has clearly excited them and they can’t wait for more. While it will have to compete in some way with other big series like House of the Dragon AND She-Hulk: Lawyer, Andor has a bright and exciting future ahead, and these fans are locked in.
