This year, Safer Internet Day is celebrated with the theme “Together for a Better Internet”. This year I tweet is asking people to come and join together to make the internet safer and a better place for users. Along with this, Twitter is also encouraging people to keep their account secure. So, if you want to keep your Twitter account safe, then follow these simple tips.
Turn on two-factor authentication
You can add an extra layer of security to your Twitter account by enabling two-factor authentication. When you enable the feature, you will be asked to provide an additional security code or key, along with your password, when you log in to ensure that only you can access your account.
Enable password reset protection
When you enable password reset protection, Twitter will ask you to confirm your email address or phone number if you ever reset your password. Use a strong password that you won’t use on other websites.
Beware of suspicious messages
Twitter will only contact you in-app or via an email from the following domain https://twitter.com. will never ask you to log in to a non-Twitter website, provide your email password, Direct message, reply or download something. Never open an attachment or install any software from an email claiming to be from Twitter; Its not. Most importantly, don’t give your username and password to third parties, and always make sure you’re on twitter.com before entering your login information.
Protected Tweets
Twitter is all about free expression, but some of us like to share our thoughts with only a limited group of people. When you sign up for Twitter, you can choose to protect your Tweets so that only your followers can view and engage with them.
Location sharing
Twitter allows you to decide whether you want to include your location in individual Tweets and your profile. As a security practice, you should avoid sharing information that could identify your home or office address or where your children go to school.
Remove followers
Twitter also allows users to restrict an account and can also remove certain people from your follower list without blocking them.
Stop them from slipping into your DMs
Direct messages allow you to have a private chat or create a group chat, but sometimes people get spammy DMs. DM settings allow you to filter spam and limit messages from people you don’t follow. If the setting is disabled, you will only receive messages from people you follow. You can also toggle the quality filter to exclude low-quality or potentially spammy DMs.
Mute function
Twitter allows you to limit Tweets from certain accounts without removing or blocking them by muting those accounts. You can still follow these accounts, but you won’t see their Tweets on your timeline. You also use Advanced Mute to mute specific words, conversations, phrases, usernames, emojis, or hashtags.
Block and count
You can also choose to completely restrict certain accounts by blocking them. Accounts you have blocked will not be able to contact you, see your Tweets, and/or follow you.
Report an account
Some common reasons people can report include spam, abusive content, impersonation, copyright or trademark infringement. Reporting helps the service keep conversations healthier. You can use the Report feature to report individual Tweets, a DM, or an account itself. They will be monitored by the Twitter team on a recurring basis.
