Anthony’s Cari-Jazz Launches Student Music Awards Program.
ANTHONY’S CARI-JAZZ launched its first annual Student Music Award Program on January 9, 2023. The purpose of the Anthony’s Cari-Jazz Student Music Award is to select an outstanding and talented undergraduate performer and provide him/her with a scholarship of $10,000 to Support, Improve, and Promote his/her success.
Founded by Anthony Maillard, the Program has two phases and is designed for musicians – singers, instrumentalists and bands. Its purpose is to recognize and encourage young artists in the study and pursuit of music, to highlight their talent and demonstrate their musical potential.
This contest is endorsed by Anthony’s Cari-Jazz and the NLCB.
How do you qualify?
The award is open to citizens resident in Trinidad and Tobago who are attending or have recently completed – within the last year – a university-level music course or program. The award is aimed at students from the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) or the University of the West Indies (UWI), or COSTATT. Other music programs within the twin islands will be considered after the entry process is complete.
The Anthony’s Cari-Jazz Student Music Awards program focuses on ‘Caribbean Jazz’ as played by artists of the Caribbean and those of the Caribbean diaspora who explore the sounds, rhythms, styles and genres of all the Caribbean islands.
The competition is open to 3rd and 4th year students and first year graduates in Trinidad and Tobago.
Thirty (30) students will be selected and presented to the Judicial Committee.
Selection Process – Entry and Submission
Students are selected based on a recommendation from their professors or tutors. They are required to submit a 5-minute music video of their performance along with the accompanying $100 entry fee. Musical selections should focus on Caribbean jazz. Submissions for the prize close on March 31, 2023.
Final judging and selection
The top four (4) scoring entrants will be announced by June 1, 2023. They will be invited to perform at the Winners Recital: Live Performance where judging will take place by another team of judges. Performances are required to be 20 to 30 minutes long and embody the spirit of their Caribbean Jazz performance skills. The winner will receive a $10,000 scholarship.
