CTM’s call for applications to join the Young Citizens Council received 112 applications before closing on 30 September 2022. It was aimed at young people aged 16 to 25.
112 people aged 16 to 25 want to join the Council of Young Citizens newly created by the Territorial Collectivity of Martinique. It was a necessary bet launched by Serge Letchimy, given the record abstention rate in the last election and the various social movements in recent years. The Council of Young Citizens is part of the participatory democracy center created last May by KTM and which unites two other bodies: the Council of Citizens (over 25 years) and the Council of Elders.
Of the 112 applications submitted to the Territorial Collectivity of Martinique, 48 applications relate to the Center, 31 applications relate to the South, 24 applications relate to the North Atlantic and 9 applications relate to the Northern Caribbean. 73 women and 39 men between the ages of 16 and 25 participated in this first council of young citizens, and among them 4 people will be selected by the executive council and 9 women and 9 men will be drawn by lot under the control of the bailiff . These 22 young people will sit on the council for two years and will be invited to formulate opinions on public policies and set up projects for the attention of young people on the island.
