BINGHAMTON, NY (WIVT/WBGH) – Bridgewater Nursing and Rehabilitation Center celebrated its 17th annual carnival yesterday, August 31st.
Residents were ushered outside to enjoy music from a live DJ, carnival games like Plinko and ski-ball, a dunk tank and treats like ice cream and cotton candy.
Christina Gaska, is an administrative assistant at Bridgewater and says this is the first time since COVID-19 that the carnival has moved outside.
She says that the residents have been looking forward to a day of holidays in the fresh air.
Christina Gaska, Assistant Administrator at Bridgewater says, “We love doing this because it gets the residents out of the everyday. I take them out, hanging out with each other. A lot of times, they don’t get to see their friends who may live in other units cause them in their unit, so it’s just nice to get out in the fresh air, have fun with each other and the staff . “
Gaska says the most loved-to-hate staff members were assigned to the tank.
She also says that many of the residents’ families visit and join the carnival.
Gaska says it is important for residents to spend time with their families in different environments and not just in their rooms.
