Scott Piercy leads after the first two rounds of the 3M Open, but some interesting narratives are starting to unfold at TPC Twin Cities as the weekend approaches. Piercy has benefited from a warm-up on the green this week that is unlikely to continue until the end of the tournament. If it happens, it will be one of the best performances of the year.
If it doesn’t, there are a handful of pucks ready to pounce on Piercy as he claws back from his six-shot lead over everyone on the pitch not named Emiliano Grillo (three defenders) and Callum Tarren (five defenders). Tony Finau is among the group that is six back and is a candidate to rise as the most talented golfer on the course and one of the best ball hitters on the leaderboard coming into the weekend.
TPC Twin Cities has been playing pretty well for the first few days of play, and it looks a little firmer than usual, which combined with a bit of wind has proven to be a challenge for many players (Friday’s cut was a long one). Hopefully that will continue as the leaders butt heads Saturday for the right to race to the finish line Sunday at the start of a three-week run to the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs.
