Tonight, the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC) will celebrate the winners of the 22nd Annual Apprenticeship Awards at the Conexus Arts Center in Regina. The Apprenticeship Awards honor the contributions of apprenticeship and trade stakeholders, including apprentices, journeymen, employers, instructors and training providers.
“On behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, I extend my warmest congratulations to this year’s Apprentice Award winners,” said Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison. “Saskatchewan’s economy is showing strong and rapid growth, and skilled tradespeople play an essential role in that growth. Thank you for your important contribution to our province.”
Thirty travelers who were certified between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022, are receiving the “Outstanding Young Traveler” award. This award is given to young journeymen who achieved the highest grade on the journeyman certification exam in their respective trades.
SATCC is launching 11 additional awards, including the First Nations and Métis Scholarship; Scholarship for Travelers with Disabilities; Outstanding Employer and Instructor Awards; and the Artisan Award, which is a lifetime achievement award. Industry partners also provide their own awards and scholarships for excellence in apprenticeships and skilled trades.
“The Recipients of the Practice Award are champions, helping to build and execute a relevant, accountable practice and certification system that supports the growth of our province and meets the needs of the citizens of Saskatchewan,” said SATCC Board Chair Drew Tiefenbach . “On behalf of SATCC and the Commission’s Board of Directors, congratulations on your wonderful accomplishments.”
Nearly 400 people are expected to attend the Apprenticeship Awards, with more than 30 organizations sponsoring the event.
