2022 MLB Field of Dreams Game score: Live updates as Cubs and Reds square off in Iowa cornfield

Major League Baseball is holding its second Field of Dreams game Thursday night as the Cubs and Reds square off in Dyersville, Iowa. Here’s how to watch Field of Dreams 2022.

The 2022 game is not a playoff caliber game like last year. The Cubs came in at 45-65 and 16 games up in the NL Central. That makes them the best team here, as the Reds are 44-66. The teams are relatively equal. The Cubs lead the season series, 4-3, and have outscored the Reds 52-47 in those games.

Chicago jumped out to an early lead to start Thursday’s action. After a pair of groundouts to start the game, Cubs third baseman Patrick Wisdom drew a walk. Seiya Suzuki then doubled to start the scoring.

Nico Hoerner followed with an RBI single, advancing to second on the throw home, and then Ian Happ doubled Hoerner home. It was a three-run ball from first for the Cubs. Quite a start.

The Cubs would string together a couple of hits to add another run in the fourth. Rookie outfielder — serving as Thursday’s DH — Nelson Velázquez started things off with a single. First baseman PJ Higgins followed with a single of his own. After one out, leadoff hitter Nick Madrigal sent a line drive to center to plate Velázquez.

Reds starter Nick Lodolo entered the season as one of the top prospects in baseball. It was his 10th MLB start of the season. He lasted 4 2/3 innings on 98 pitches, giving up four runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out six.

Fellow lefty Drew Smyly was Lodolo’s counterpart in this one. The Cubs’ veteran lefty has gone five scoreless innings with nine strikeouts, allowing just four hits, all of which have been singles.
