The nine-week Dubai World Cup Carnival schedule was revealed by the Dubai Racing Club on Thursday. Starting on Friday 6 January 2023 with the G2 Al Maktoum Challenge, G2 Al Fahidi Fort, G3 Dubawi S. and Listed Ertijaal Dubai Dash, DWCC 2023 also features additional enhancements.
Several new races have joined the lineup, including the 2,000-meter Thunder Snow Challenge and the 1,400-meter Ipi Tombe S. for fillies and mares. In total, there are 21 Group races for Thoroughbreds and Thoroughbreds, as well as 20 handicaps – 10 Dirt and 10 Terrain – that complement the Pattern races. The Jumeirah Turf Series for 3-year-olds returns for a second season with an upgrade of two Classic races to packed 3-year-old events also on the turf.
Super Saturday will take place on March 4, the official dress rehearsal for the $30.5 million Dubai World Cup meeting at the end of the month. There is also the new Ras Al Khor, which was oversubscribed for a 2022 inauguration.
Major General Mohammed Al Essa, Director General of Dubai Racing Club, explained the new look of the Carnival program and said: “Under the leadership of Sheikh Rashid Bin Dalmook Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Racing Club, we have been working hard on the Carnival. program for 2023. We have reintroduced some handicaps which will hopefully increase overseas participation and work well with the established group racing calendar.
“We look forward to welcoming horses, trainers, riders and owners to Dubai for what we are sure will be an exciting and memorable 20th running of the Dubai World Cup Carnival.”
