2800 participants for Edo sports carnival

No. No fewer than 2,800 participants are expected at the fifth Edo Heritage Sports Festival and Carnival slated for November in Benin City.

Ms. Omoyemwen Adeyinka-Afolabi, CEO, Heritage and Sports Colony International, stated this on Wednesday in Benin City.

“Sport, which is at the center of the event, will attract grassroots participants. The sports segment will include events such as chess, rugby, darts, athletics, traditional wrestling, netball, taekwondo, karate and football,” she said.

Adeyinka-Afolabi added that the event was aimed at promoting sports and culture at the grassroots.

She said that through this event, 1,000 people will gain free vocational training in partnership with the Edo Job Centre.

The training will be among other things in the preparation of bags, pastry and cookies.

“There will also be a beauty pageant,” added Adeyinka-Afolabi.

Also, Edema Fuludu from the Community Sports and Education Development Initiative, said the interest in the girl-child attracted the attention of his outfit.

Fuludu, a former international, noted that sports and education served as tools for economic development.
