MENDHAM, NJ – The winner of the 50/50 raffle from the 79th annual Passover Labor Day Carnival was presented with their winning check this weekend, according to Pastime Club President Mark Coutts.
Jamie Straub, a Mendham Borough resident, received his award at a ceremony outside the club on Friday, September 9. Straub won $35,515, making him the biggest prize winner in club history.
According to Coutts, the Pastime Club will support a wide range of youth sports teams in Mendham, Chester and Bernardsville with proceeds from the 50/50 raffle.
Pastime Club is a non-profit organization founded in 1915. Its mission as a civic and fraternal organization is to promote youth athletics within the local community. The 107-year-old club also supports local veterans organizations and is the proud owner of Boy Scout Troop 1.
The Pastime Club, according to officials, is the community’s largest financial supporter of youth athletic programs in Mendhams. The club sponsors teams and leagues, purchases field equipment and awards scholarships to local student-athletes.
The club also contributes to one of Mendham’s largest community events, the Labor Day Carnival. The annual Labor Day celebration began in 1943 and has continued every year since.
The carnival, which takes place every year at Borough Field, is a large-scale event that includes rides, games and food.
