Let’s take a look at some not-so-easy or nearly unattainable records from the flamboyant and empowering party in sports.
Highest match total: 493 runs
Match number 10 between Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) and Jamaica Thallawahs (JT) during the 2019 edition saw the CPL reach its highest match total of 493 runs. The TKR batting first saw Collin Munro play an unbeaten knock of 96 (50), Lendl Simmons with 86 (42) and Kieron Pollard with his TKR of 17-ball-47, scoring 267/2. Jamaica in reply had Chris Gayle hitting 39 (24), Javelle and Ramaal with 34 (24) and 37 (15) respectively contributing to the team’s total of 226/5, which saw Glenn Phillips top the run sheet with 32-ball-62. The run party game saw TKR win by 41 runs.
Best bowling figures: 4-1-6-6
Bowlers don’t find T20 cricket very enjoyable, but on 3 August 2013 that certainly wasn’t the case with Shakib Al Hassan as he recorded the league’s best bowling figures, finishing 4-1-6- 6 without an wide ball or no ball, that’s what you call a 0 complaint day at the office. Helped with forward wickets by Jason Holden and Shanon Gabriel, Shakib Al Hassan quickly took apart the Trinidad & Tobago Red Steels (now, Trinbago Knight Riders) innings leaving the side bowled out for 52 runs. Barbados Tridents (now, Barbados Royals) didn’t have the best of outings with the bat but eventually got there with 4 wickets in hand and 12 overs in the bank.

Highest total in an innings: 267/2
Trinbago Knight Riders 2019 innings against Jamaica Thallawahs saw the opener, Lendl Simmons start in his very natural aggressive way and with the wicket of opener Sunil Narine on 20(18) out came Colin Munro and he also got into his very natural aggressiveness . fashion. With the attack launched from both ends, the Jamaican bowlers found it difficult to contain and Simmons and Munro took full advantage and finished with 86(42) and 96*(50). Pollard got out after Simmons’ wicket and added more insult to injury by smashing a 17-ball 47 which pushed TKR to a 267-run finish.
Best economy rate in a tournament: 2-2-0-2
The best economy rate on CPL just doesn’t see economy rate, it’s just as easy as you want. Imran Tahir in the previous edition (2021) playing for Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) had a total of 142 runs below his norm but an inspiring bowling performance led by Imran Tahir dismissing opener Keenar at 3(5) and number 3 Kirk’s goal for a 3-ball duck consoled his side and then, after not being bowled, ended the game with 2 maidens, no runs and 2 wickets coming off 2 overs. More importantly, the Jamaica Thallawahs were bowled out for 129 and the Warriors registered a 14-run victory.
Largest margin of victory: 120 runs
Last year’s contest between Jamaica Thallawahs and St Lucia Kings saw the CPL record its biggest margin of victory. Jamaica’s batting first saw openers Chadwick Walton and Keenar Lewis score 47 (29) and 48 (21). Haider Ali’s 45 (32), Rovman Powell’s 38 (26) and Andre Russell’s 14-ball 50 took Jamaica’s Thallawahs to a total of 255/5. St. Lucia in reply lost early wickets and Tim David’s 28-ball-56 and Wahab Riaz’s handy 26-ball-29 took the team’s poor end to 135. Imran Khan’s 2.3-0-7-3 and 4 Migael’s -0-34 -4 helped Jamaica Thallawahs register a 120-run win.
