Hits and Jams Entertainment under its new entity, Steel Buildings Guyana Incorporated, on Thursday launched its steel frame prefabricated houses.
The launch featured the first model of the homes to be built, which cost around $8.5 million. The 600 square meter flat house model features two fully air-conditioned rooms, a bathroom, a kitchen and a comfortable living room, as well as a small dining area.
Hits and Jams CEO Kerwin Bollers stated that the company focused on the prefabricated housing area because of the timely construction period it offered, which is in line with Guyana’s demand for houses.
“We know exactly what’s going on in terms of construction in Guyana and the housing boom… we felt that this particular method of construction is definitely timely because of the demand for it. We know that in Guyana, as far as construction goes, people who have their land titles or conveyances should go to the new homes they want to move into as soon as possible,” he said.
These prefab homes offered by Steel Buildings Guyana can be built in as little as six weeks.
Hits and Jams Chief Executive Rawle Ferguson said prefab homes were a gift to young people because of their affordability.
“Sustainable, affordable, fashionable in six weeks, this is what we present to Guyana.
“Our dreams at Hits & Jams are always for young people to have their own and this model with this system that we have here will make you, apart from working in different banks and so on, bring you your own home ,” Ferguson. highlighted.
The featured model and regular model homes are constructed of three-and-one-half inch galvanized steel frames. All materials used in the interior and exterior of the house are non-combustible, which reduces the risk of losing the entire house in a fire. The houses can also be equipped with any modern architectural finish.
The construction of these houses will be done in collaboration with a Barbadian company which has brought in naturalized Guyanese who will teach the local Guyanese team to put together the prefabricated structures.
Present at the launch were the Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal and the Minister of the Ministry of Housing and Water, Susan Rodrigues. Croal explained that the government could not meet the current demand for houses in Guyana, with the Ministry distributing close to 15,000 house plots recently. two years.
“This sparks new life in the sector, you have a government that recognizes the demand for this sector and we know that we cannot respond to the demands alone; we need support, we need investors in this sector and that’s why you have the partnership of these young entrepreneurs today,” he said.

The Minister noted that the non-traditional houses now being added to Guyana’s market were important to the future development of the country.
“The investment that is being made here as part of the housing drive, this venture that the team is undertaking is an indication of the rapidly changing dynamics in the housing program because here you are witnessing a team of local entrepreneurs responding to new demands for housing options”, he emphasized.
Meanwhile, Minister Rodrigues added that the government was laser-focused on Guyanese homeownership, which would promote the launch of these affordable prefabricated homes.
“We’re not satisfied with just giving lots of houses to our people, but making sure that we can put them in a house, making sure that we create the right climate, that we create the investment climate, and that we create opportunities that people to be able to afford their home.
“We want to make sure that we provide all the opportunities and the right investment climate for people to do things like this, so that we don’t just depend on the Ministry’s housing program or the models that we have in the Ministry in terms of models of housing, but to give people more affordable options,” Minister Rodrigues said.
