She said that the Government of Guyana believes in investing heavily in the education sector and that this includes building facilities where needed to ensure access to quality education.

Minister Manickchand reminded teachers in attendance today that RegionFour produced one of the students who tied for first place in this year’s Sixth Form National Assessment, Neuel Bancroft from Annandale Primary School. She said that in addition to parental support and natural brilliance, the student needed to be surrounded by excellent teachers from kindergarten through sixth grade.

She said fifth and sixth graders are getting all the textbooks they need for free, and soon all elementary school students will get all the textbooks they need for free.

Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall also thanked the teachers for their hard work and congratulated them on behalf of the Government for a job well done.

On the subject of the new school, he said that less than three decades ago, the land on which the building stands was a cow pasture. He clarified to those present today that he had attended the community nursery which was a ‘down house’.
