UWI senior lecturer and former PNM senator Dr Lester Henry died last night at his home of a heart attack. He celebrated his 61st birthday on Thursday 20 October.
Henry, an economist, was recently appointed to the NGC board and attended a board meeting shortly before his death.
Henry was an avid sports fan, with a particular love for the Soca Warriors and the West Indies cricket team. He wrote a guest column for Wired868 on the West Indies’ 2016 World Cup T20 triumph, which he described as “a triumph of hard work and professionalism over lucky cricket; and not vice versa”.
A statement from the PNM described Henry’s death as “a significant loss for both the party and the country”.
“We welcome his contribution to national development in the field of education and politics and we are grateful to his family for sharing him with us,” the PNM announcement states. “Rest now, good and faithful servant. Your work here is done.”
Henry was the son of media stalwart Ferdie Ferreira.
