| Rhyan White takes gold as Alabama brings medal total to four at USA Swimming National Championships
IRVINE, Calif. – Alabama came away with two more medals on day four of the USA Swimming National Championships being held in Irvine, Calif., this week, with a gold from Ryan White and a bronze from Kensey McMahon.
White won the women’s 100-meter backstroke national championship as the only woman under 59.0 in the event, clocking 58.91 to take gold. She added this to her silver medal in the 200m backstroke from earlier in the week.
McMahon added another bronze medal at the national championships, placing third in the 400-meter freestyle with a school-record time of 4:08.57, shaving nearly a second from the previous school record of 4:09.39 she set in the prelims. . Overall, she knocked more than two seconds off the school standard she set in 2019. McMahon also won bronze in the 800-meter freestyle on the first day of championship competition.
In other Crimson Tide action, Morgan School won the B final of the women’s 100-meter backstroke in a career-best 1:00.48, finishing ninth overall.
Action concludes Saturday with Alabama placing eight swimmers, two men and six women, in the 1,500-meter freestyle, 200-meter individual medley and 50 freestyle. Preliminaries begin at 9am PT, while finals begin at 5pm PT.
