ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Alabama Nick Dunlap is tied for fifth overall and continues to lead the men’s golf team after 36 holes of Georgia College Golf action. As a team, 12th-ranked Crimson Tide is in eighth place coming into Sunday’s final round of play with a 36-hole total of 5-under par 571 (280-291).
After shooting a season-best 7-under-par 65 in Friday’s first round, Dunlap closed Saturday’s second round with a 1-over 73 for a two-day total of 6-under 138 — one of eight individuals drew with the same result. Cave SW is tied for 30th at 1-under 143 (69-74). Jonathan Griswho posted the team’s lowest round of the day with a 2-under 70, is tied for 33st with an even-par 144 (74-70).
The three-day, 54-hole tournament will conclude Sunday at the 72-yard, 7,017-yard Golf Club of Georgia – Lakefront Course in Alpharetta, Ga.
Highlights of the second round
- Jonathan Gris recorded his second sub-par round of the season with Saturday’s performance
- Nick Dunlap The 73 was just the third time in 11 rounds this season he shot par
- Dunlap continues to lead the field in 3-under (-3, 2.63), while his 14 birdies rank second among all individual players
- both Cave SW (-1, 2.86) and Thomas Ponder (-1, 2.86) also ranks in the top five in point 3
- Ponder is tied for 43rdst overall with a 2-over 146 (72-74) while Canon Claycomb (76-75/151) rounds out the Tide players in a tie for 66th in general
- Tyler Lipscombwho competes in this event as an individual, is 75 years oldth (82-83/165)
Field
- Tournament host and No. 13 Georgia Tech (-21, 555) holds a three-shot lead over No. 10 Tennessee (-18, 558)
- 25 Pepperdine (-17,559) is third, followed by no. 5 Stanford (-15, 561) and Clemson (-14, 562) to round out the top five teams
- The 13-team field includes seven teams in the nation’s top 20, including six teams from the 2022 NCAA Championship field
- Along with the Crimson Tide, other ranked teams in the field include No. 7 Stanford, No. 8 Virginia, No. 9 Texas A&M, No. 10 Tennessee, No. 13 Georgia Tech, No. 20 Pepperdine, Wake Forest, Washington, Duke, East Tennessee State, Clemson and Southern California
