TULSA, Okla. – Alabama’s 13th– sorted Filip Planinsek competed in the singles main draw, while competing in the doubles main draw with partner German Samofalov at the ITA All-American Championships on Wednesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
No. 13 Planinsek faced Ohio State’s Alexander Bernard in the opening round of the singles main draw. Planinsek dropped just three games in the first set for an early 6-3 advantage. In the second set of a back-and-forth, the UA sophomore forced a tie but fell 10-8 in the tiebreaker. Despite fighting back in the third set, Planinsek would suffer a 6-4 defeat.
The doubles team ranked no. 33 i German Samofalov and Planinsek put up a tough fight against TCU’s Luc Fomba and Pedro Vives Marcos. The Tide duo fell in the first set, 6-3, but came back strong with a 6-4 victory in the second. Samofalov and Planinsek would go down 10-8 in the closing set to fall in the match.

Planinsek will play in the singles consolation round against No. 19 Noah Schachter of Texas A&M on Thursday at 9 a.m. CT. Doubles duo Planinsek and Samofalov will compete in the consolation round at 2:30 pm CT against No. 10 Sema Pankin and Eleftherios Neos of Portland.
