Alabama Men’s Tennis Samofalov, Jones Win Matches On Day Two Of The SEC/Big 12 Challenge

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.– Alabama Men’s Tennis German Samofalov AND Roan Jones recorded doubles victories while also winning their respective singles matches Saturday at the SEC/Big 12 Challenge at Alabama Tennis Stadium.

João Ferreira also competed Saturday in the consolation bracket at the Country Club of Birmingham Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.

SEC / Big 12 dual challenger

SEC/Big 12 Singles Challenge

  • German Samofalov was victorious over OSU’s Leighton Allen 6-0, 7-5
  • Roan Jones beat OSU’s Carl Roothman 6-2, 6-3
  • Matias Ponce De Leon fell 6-3, 6-3 in his match against Cowboy’s Chase Ferguson
  • Filip Planinsek fell to his OSU opponent, Isaac Becroft, falling 6-1 in the first set
  • The UA sophomore battled back to tie the game at 6-6 in the second set, before falling in the tiebreak 7-4
  • The Tide will resume play on Sunday at 10 a.m. CT

CCB invitation

  • João Ferreira continued play on Saturday in the third round of the tournament
  • The UA sophomore fell short of Washington’s Cesar Bouchelaghem 6-3, 6-2
  • Ferreira will play in the consolation round against Belmont’s Alfred Wallin on Sunday
