IRVINE, Calif. – Alabama distance ace Kensey McMahon opened the USA Swimming National Championships, being held in Irvine, Calif., this week with a bronze medal showing in the 800-meter freestyle.
McMahon, who competed as part of Team USA in the 25-kilometer event at the World Open Water Championships last month, clocked 8:31.92 to win the bronze medal. McMahon finished less than a second out of the silver medal, while U.S. Olympian Katie Ledecky took top gold medal honors.
Alabama returns to action on Wednesday with swims in the 200 freestyle, 200 breaststroke and 200 backstroke. Prelims begin at 9am PT, while finals begin at 5pm PT.
