Animation, directed by Marília Mafé and Marcos França,
is the first animated film from Pernambuco, and
there are voices from
Gabriel Leone and Hugo Bonemer, in dubbing.
From a television series, already loved by children, BEYOND THE LEGEND – THE MOVIE brings, with a playful and very lyrical language, with a color and eyes, characters and stories of Brazilian folklore for children.
The film expands the television universe launched in 2018, and which has 13 episodes, shown among others on TV Brasil and Globo NE – Pernambuco.
there is no time for it voice actors, the feature has voices from Gabriel Leone, Hugo Bonemer.
Accessible and entertaining, the film makes children aware of the importance of national legends. The plot involves a sacred book, which collects all the stories of national folklore and is hidden in a mountain. It is revealed only once a year, on the day of Sac, October 31. However, a trio that symbolizes Halloween comes to Brazil on that date and, accepted as celebrities, they intend to steal the book and dominate our legends.
BEYOND THE LEGEND – THE MOVIE, directed by Marília Mafé and Marcos França, expands the stories and characters of the television cartoons, which are also present in different formats and platforms, such as 9 books, social networks, podcasts, among others. Ulisses Brandão, executive producer and screenwriter of the series and film, explains that he also wanted to bring Brazilian folklore to cinema. One of the highlights of the film is Saci, who is introduced now.
“The responsibility increases a lot when you start working with such an expensive and well-known character to the Brazilian public like Saci, for example. We revisited some older legends such as Cuca and Curupira, which prompted us to reinforce research on this topic. But it is important to note that all the legends that we present have a sauce that brings our spices. We cannot tell stories that were not true for us“, Explain.
The feature brings a special combination that speaks directly to the audience: legends and Brazilian technology. “The way we found to communicate with today’s children was to incorporate modern objects, such as drones, into the narrative and a nimble dynamic in order to make our audience always attentive..”
Two things, as explained by Brandão, are essential to establish a dialogue with children. One is the humor and the other is the behavior of the characters in a contemporary everyday life that children can identify with.
“We don’t build heroes and villains, but characters with flaws and virtues, like all of us. With the film, which is aimed at a family audience, we have always been concerned that the work is also attractive to parents, because they know the characters well. So the way the narrative unfolds, and especially how the jokes happen, is in a way that entertains parents and kids.”
The first animation produced in Pernambuco, BEYOND THE LEGEND – THE MOVIE it is the result of the work of forty professionals. “But I believe we represent many more people. We represent a trajectory of good storytellers we have here in the state. Cinema in Pernambuco is a source of pride for all of us, not only for the awards, but especially for representing so well moments and aspects of our society. We take great joy in carrying this legacy forward..”
In addition to the voice actors of the TV show – such as Marcello Trigo, Bruna Cortez, Robson Ugo, Írina França, Jr Black and Pablo Ferreira – the film expands this cast with the participation of Gabriel Leone, Hugo Bonemer, Anderson Macário, Gabriela Melo, Alex Lima and Monica Feijó. Another novelty, besides the long one BEYOND THE LEGEND – THE MOVIEwhich is a multiplatform project, is launching a game inspired by it.
“The game is being produced by a company from Pernambuco, Manifesto. In the game, the player will be able to go on an unprecedented adventure with the main characters of the movie. It’s a complementary experience to watching the feature film.”
Brandão explains that it is a challenge to work with stories and characters so important and beloved in the national culture, but the series and the film have created their own image of our legends.
“We do not hesitate to propose a new look, with much respect, now a little more modern and disrespectful. We also believe in the importance of introducing these characters to new generations. We want Brazilian kids to know that Saci and Boto, for example, can be just as cool as Spider-Man and Batman.
BEYOND THE LEGEND – THE MOVIE is released in Brazil by Boulevard Filmes.

summary
A sacred book unites all the legends of Brazilian folklore and is kept secret and hidden in the Heart Mountain of Brazil, which is revealed only once a year, precisely on October 31, the day of Sac. But the date is forgotten by many Brazilians, who prefer to celebrate Halloween. A trio that symbolizes Halloween, the witch cat Witchka, the scarecrow Jerry Moon and the specter Midnight, come to the country with the idea to capture the secret book and thus “dominate” the Brazilian legends. What they didn’t expect, however, was to find three of these legends in the crosshairs. In a child’s play, Comadre Fulozinha, Negrinho do Pastoreio and Curupira end up losing the book, which, by chance, falls into the hands of the boy Lucas, a fan of superheroes, comics and games. Without knowing it, the boy will be responsible for protecting a part of our folklore, which ends up creating a strong bond of friendship between him and the Brazilian legends.
