Almost 90% of journalists in Guinea-Bissau’s private sector earn poorly and have no employment contracts

Almost 90% of journalists in Guinea-Bissau’s private media earn less than 100,000 CFA francs (about 150 euros) a month and have no employment contract, a report released today concluded.

Prepared at the request of the Association of Media Professional Women, in partnership with the Association for Cooperation between Peoples, and funded by Camões, the Institute for Cooperation and Language, the report describes the profile of the media in Guinea-Bissau.

As for the private media, dominated by radio stations, the data show that 229 professionals work in that sector and that “the vast majority are men.
