Trinidad and Tobago’s Anisa Mohammed is off to South Africa to serve as an ambassador/mentor for the inaugural edition of the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup.
Mohammed, who has taken a six-month break from the sport, announced on social media on Thursday that she was heading to South Africa.
“On my way to South Africa as an ICC ambassador/mentor for the U-19 Women’s World Cup,” the Sangre Grande cricketer announced.
The 34-year-old did not reveal any other details about her role in the world tour, which will take place from February 10-23, 2023 in South Africa.
Mohammed is one of the icons of the global women’s game and has represented the West Indies for two decades.
She has the most wickets for the West Indies in ODIs (180) and T20Is (125) in a career spanning from 2003 till date.
Mohammed has the fourth most wickets in ODI history globally and is currently the leading wicket taker in T20I history.
She is also the ninth woman in history to take a hat-trick in T20I cricket, a feat she achieved at the Brian Lara Stadium against South Africa in September 2018.
In December 2020, Mohammed was named in the ICC ODI Team of the Decade.
The West Indies Women’s U19 will be coached by Ashmini Munisar and will include Trinidad and Tobago players Djenaba Joseph, KD Jazz Mitchell, Shalini Samaroo and Shunelle Sawh.
