West Indies vice-captain Anisa Mohammed says she will take a six-month break from the international game.
A CWI media release stated that Mohammed, who will play in the inaugural Women’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL) final on Sunday, has had a “full year of cricket both at home and away”.
Mohammed asked for a break from the game and Cricket West Indies (CWI) fully supports her decision.
“Anisa has been a true supporter of West Indies women’s cricket for over a decade. We at the CWI wish her well and will offer her any support she may require during this period away from international cricket and look forward to welcoming her back in March,” said Jimmy Adams, Director of CWI Cricket.
“Cricket has given me everything I have, and I still love it as much as the first day I started playing, so this decision was not easy for me, especially with the T20 World Cup five months away,” Mohammed said.
“However, I have to listen to my body and my mind that I need to take time off from the game at the moment,” she added.
Mohammed said it is not “a permanent goodbye, but we will see each other soon”.
“I wish the team all the best in all their upcoming series and I know Hayley will live up to her role as captain as I have watched her mature and grow as a person and a cricketer,” said Mohammed .
The Sangre Grande native has played 141 ODIs and 117 T20Is for the West Indies since her debut in 2003.
Mohammed has taken 305 international wickets, the most by any West Indies women’s player.
She is the only West Indian women’s player to take a hat-trick in women’s international cricket.
