Major events that were not held as part of the 2022 Carnival celebrations may find a place when Antigua and Barbuda hosts its Independence Day celebrations in November.
This is according to the Minister for Creative Industries and Innovation, Dr Michael Browne.
“There were a large number of events and activities that did not take place during the carnival that usually take place during the carnival,” he said. “They are at the table for Independence. We plan to open Independence with a big gospel concert that we are looking at.”
Minister Browne also revealed that October has been designated Music Month. The objective, he explained, is to showcase and celebrate instruments such as the steel band, piano and guitar, while also paying homage to music’s greats.
“There will be a large number of concerts and some will be in traditional venues … there will be a lot of musical expression.”
Minister Browne also mentioned the opening of the fashion and theater season and the return of the national Christmas lights competition later in the year.
“We will have a number of Christmas events focusing mainly on music, culture and the performing arts. We will also look at theater art”, said the Minister of Creative Industry.
He further explained that these events are meant to highlight and celebrate the creativity of Antiguans and Barbudans.
