The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, met behind closed doors with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta.
The two leaders had a frank conversation.
A large number of APC supporters in the state stormed Obasanjo’s residence, dancing and singing praises for the candidate as the meeting dragged on.
The meeting, which began at 1:09 p.m., lasted three hours and ended without either side speaking to reporters about the outcome.
It is believed that Tinubu had used the opportunity of the meeting to seek Obasanjo’s support for his presidential ambition.
The former Governor of Lagos State was escorted to the Obasanjo Penthouse inside the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; a former national chairman of the APC, Bisi Akande; and a former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nuhu Ribadu, among others.
He was received by the state governor, Dapo Abiodun; and former governors Segun Osoba and Gbenga Daniel.
Former deputy governors Gbenga Kaka and Salimot Badru also participated in the rally.
While Tinubu walked out of the Penthouse to the hands of the mob that included journalists, Obasanjo remained at home while his guests left after the meeting.
The presidential candidate did not give a press interview after entering a waiting car which took him to the MKO Abiola Stadium for another program.
When asked to address members of the Craft Association of Nigeria, Ogun State chapter at the stadium, Tinubu only prayed for them and left the venue.
A source, who did not want to be named because he was not authorized to speak to the reporter on the outcome of the meeting, told our correspondent that some selected people were allowed to join Tinubu and Obasanjo for the second phase of the meeting.
The source said that a pre-meeting was held where almost all the dignitaries who attended were present.
The second phase of the meeting was said to have only five people who joined the two leaders in the inner room.
The source described the meeting as fruitful, saying both sides agreed that no one should make the meeting a media issue.
The source said: “It was a very real and tough discussion on both sides.
“Obasanjo, as usual, was direct and Asiwaju was very direct in his report.”
