The Australian High Commission Trinidad and Tobago is inviting applications for the Direct Assistance Program (DAP), a flexible small grants program through which the Australian Government supports development projects that contribute to sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction.
Funding information
- Eligible applicants can apply for funding up to a maximum of AUD 60,000, but projects above AUD 30,000 must be delivered in partnership with established entities and have a strong project design with a detailed budget, project timeline and strategy of risk management.
Eligible projects
- DAP activities must have achievable and sustainable development results for the communities involved. In 2022-2023, DAP will support projects that focus on:
- Addressing community health and non-communicable disease (NCD) challenges e.g. health screening services, public health campaigns, sports projects, etc.
- Promoting human rights, including projects that empower women, youth, indigenous communities and people with disabilities, e.g. capacity building trainings, etc.
- Improving access to safe water and levels of sanitation and hygiene in communities, e.g. water tanks/systems, sanitary facilities, etc.
- Promoting climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies, strengthening resilience and environmentally sustainable practices, e.g. protection of coral reefs, sustainable fishing, sustainable agricultural practices, etc.
- Preference will be given to projects where applicants and their communities make a contribution to the project (eg by providing labour, materials, transport or monetary support)
Eligibility criteria
- Community groups, NGOs, local government organizations and other entities involved in development activities on a non-profit basis in the listed countries are eligible to apply for funding through DAP:
However, all payments to successful applicants will only be transferred to registered accounts of NGOs or entities (ie payments will not be made to personal accounts). Any changes made to the project scope or approved budget must be approved by the High Commission. Failure to seek prior approval will result in a breach of contract and all unapproved expenses will be payable.
Inappropriate
- The following expenses are NOT eligible for funding:
- Grant programs run by governments or organizations
- Micro-loan schemes or any project involving cashback or cash loans
- Staff salaries for implementing organizations
- Administrative costs not directly related to project implementation
- Lease or purchase of land
- Purchase of vehicles or fuel
- Routine, recurring and/or operating costs including: office rent and utility costs; routine maintenance and repairs (including equipment such as photocopiers, computers, stoves, refrigerators, etc.) and office or equipment insurance
- Commercial enterprises
- Catering
- Accommodation
- Transport, including flights, taxis and car hire (although some costs may be considered on a case-by-case basis)
- Sponsorship of major sports tournaments or cultural performances that do not have clear development outcomes
- Direct support to governments
