A couple of months ago, while returning late from a party with two of my closest friends, I experienced what I hope never to experience again – a near-death accident.
(It) could be said, we were all pretty drunk and the car was speeding, but the only thing we did that night was remember to wear our seat belts. Because God knows, it’s what became our saving grace when we crashed into a tree.
Why I am recalling this shocking incident of my life is because it was literally only this detail that could have saved the business tycoon and former chairman of Tata Sons, Cyrus Mistry. life, after passing away in a tragic car accident.
I am deeply saddened to hear about Cyrus Mistry’s fatal accident. What I can’t understand is how preventable this was.
I’ve run this patch a hundred times and always wondered how poorly it was designed. Random splits without prior warnings, carriageway becomes 2×2 from 3×3 etc https://t.co/dBWQ1dSsRT

While returning to Mumbai after a visit to the Iranshah fire temple in Udvada, a small village in Gujarat, Cyrus Mistry along with three other people in their SUV met with a fatal accident when their car crashed at an allotment in Maharashtra’s Palghar on Sunday afternoon.
The car in which Cyrus Mistry was traveling from Ahemdabad to Mumbai hit a divider. Four passengers in the car at the time of the accident. Two died on the spot from the accident. Two others were shifted to a local hospital in Kasa of Palghar in Maharashtra. pic.twitter.com/e0tLum5OOj

Reports confirmed that Mistry and Jahangir died on the spot, given that they were not wearing seat belts while sitting on the back. And as tragic as the news of their deaths was, it gave people a wake-up call to be more vigilant about their own safety.
There are many such spots in Gurugram too. The cause of the accident is infra and the cause of death is Cyrus’ own negligence, Cyrus was not wearing a seat belt. Both rear seat passengers died and both front seat passengers survived. A seat belt in the back seat is always recommended.

It has been confirmed that Cyrus was not wearing a seat belt. He was in the back seat. Anyone who has traveled with me in a car would know that I always wear my seat belt, regardless of the car and where I sit. The seat belt is the first line of defense. You can have state of the art safety car https://t.co/aDiME3s8Sh

Lesson from the death of Cyrus Mistry.. Put seat belts on the back seats too.
Airbags only understand the sensors, if you don’t use the seat belt, the airbags don’t work. If its #Mercedes or any other luxury car.. #CyrusMysteryDeath

Twitter has been trending with #seatbelt as netizens express their regret and urge others to never compromise their safety on the road.
Business tycoons like Anand Mahindra have also taken to Twitter saying, “I make it a point to always wear my seat belt even when I’m in the back seat of the car. And I urge all of you to take this pledge as well. We all owe it to our families.”

Meanwhile, Virendra Sehwag wrote, “Extremely tragic end to such a promising life, former Tata Sons chairman #CyrusMistry. Heartfelt condolences. He was sitting in the back seat without a seat belt and the two survivors were in the front seat wearing seat belts. It is important to wear a seat belt in the back seat as well.”

Almost everything I know doesn’t wear a seat belt while sitting in the back of the car. #Mistria Cyrus was sitting in the back seat minus the seat belt at the time of the crash. This simulation shows what happens to an unbelted rear seat passenger in a crash. Please #Wear your seat belt ALWAYS! pic.twitter.com/HjS9weMOT0

Touched by the tragedy, many people even spoke about how they can’t miss ‘another Cyrus Mistry for not wearing a seat belt’ while people posted comments like, “@nitin_gadkari please make seat belt mandatory for rear seats in cars, when you’re on highways and freeways. We shouldn’t lose another Cyrus for not wearing a seat belt.”

So wear your seat belt at all times, even if you’re sitting in the back, guys. Stay safe!
