I hope that our new President will not be exclusively politically correct.
T&T needs a candidate who is above the beat of ethnically driven domestic politics, who understands and appreciates the constitutionally bounded challenges of presiding over a diverse multicultural society. The incumbent cannot adopt all that has become the norm recently.
Being a responsible and appreciative multiculturalist should be the litmus test. Ethnonationalism must be rejected here.
That person must earn the respect and support of all of T&T and work to repair the damage done to T&T’s cultural mosaic since 2015.
That official should not be cast in the same strong image and aggressive likeness of the great destroyer. He/she must and indeed must reflect and demonstrate a history of being in possession of a clear mind, belief and modus operandi of patriotic building, a commitment to multiculturalism and command the respect, admiration and support of all several communities that make up our diversity. to bring T&T back to where it was and should currently be.
There is an urgent need to rotate color in the President’s House in recognition of the need to achieve some degree of rotational justice/representation/inclusiveness to once again unite this society, as the NAR experiment did in its early incarnation. interrupted.
The appointment and election of a president-designate should not only be seen to, but should be the result of national consensus reached through bilateral government and opposition consultations and taking into account the views of civil society on this most critical appointment in the annals of T&T.
We cannot allow someone to lead the government of T&T and call the shots from the President’s House as rumors that will lead us to believe that they are on the line.
T&T is no one’s political fiefdom to be exploited for personal aggrandizement, honor and privilege.
T&T seems to be drifting aimlessly from its inclusive moorings towards turbulence, disunity, us-them syndrome and choppy waters.
I wish T&T a healthy and safe 2023.
