The National Hurricane Center (NHC, for its English acronym) reported today that the potential for cyclone development in the next five days of Invest 96L increased by 70%.
According to Cecil Villanueva, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in San Juan (SNM), “what could happen in the area could be between a tropical wave and a tropical depression” regardless of the development of that system. The same may be near our area over the weekend. Cecil Villanueva reported that what worries them the most is the amount of rain it could bring due to the fact that the ground is saturated.
For his part, the temporary commissioner of the Bureau of Emergency Management and Disaster Administration (NMEAD), Nino Correa, assured that they are ready to participate in any emergency that may arise in an atmospheric event. “Regardless of the challenge that the agencies may have, I can tell you that they are prepared,” said Correa.
Additionally, LUMA Energy’s external affairs advisor, José Pérez, stated in this medium that they have over $130 million in materials to restore electrical service in the event of an atmospheric event.
