Bajo agua la subestación Las Acacias en Cabo Rojo

The municipal legislator of the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP) in Cabo Rojo, Guarionex Padilla Marty, told RADIO ISLA that the Las Acacias substation is currently under water, following the passage of Hurricane Fiona.

“The area called La Bajura, separated by San Germán, Hormigueros and Cabo Rojo, is completely underwater. In addition, there is the Las Acacias substation, which is also under water, which will prevent the restoration of electrical service for at least a week or two,” Padilla Marty revealed.

“The substation was built right next to a river, the Rio Guanajibo, so you can imagine that this has been a historical problem. When significant floods occur, such as those that occurred in 2018, 2019 and 2020, the substation was out of order, leaving the municipality of Cabo Rojo and Hormigueros without electricity,” he added.

Likewise, Padilla Marty reported that the damage to the electrical structure in this area was quite significant after the atmospheric event.
