What is the match?

Jamaica Tallawahs meet Barbados Royals in the 2022 Caribbean Premier League Final.

When is it taking place?

The match is scheduled to take place at 19:00 local time (GMT-5) on Friday, September 30.

Where is the match played?

This game will be played at Providence Stadium, Guyana.

Who has the form?

The Royals have arguably been the most consistent side during the tournament, faltering only briefly when they lost David Miller and Quinton de Kock on international duty. Since then, the Royals’ batting has picked up nicely, with solid performances from Rahkeem Cornwall and Azam Khan in particular helping to cushion the loss of the South African duo.

The Royals have lost just twice in 11 CPL outings in 2022, including a six-run loss to the side that stands between them and the trophy.

Tallavas have been less determined. After starting strongly with three straight wins, the Tallawahs have been beaten at least once by every other team in the competition.

However, they have won their last two games. In both matches, the Tallawahs batted first, backing their batsmen to defend a total, and in their most recent outing, against the Guyana Amazon Warriors, they scored a whopping 226 runs.

What is the match to watch?

Cornwall is the obvious talking point for the Royals. The striker is in fine form after his 91 against the Guyana Amazon Warriors and will look to exploit a weakened Tallawahs bowling attack if Mohammed Amiri’s injury prevents him from playing.

The Pakistani all-rounder has consistently been Tallawahs’ best option with the new ball, taking 16 wickets so far this season at an average of 15.62.

Cornwall’s opening partner Kyle Mayers has also been prolific this season, scoring 337 runs at an average of 30.63. Their consistent performances at the top of the order have laid a foundation for Azam Khan and Jason Holder, among others, to build on later in the order.

The main concern for the Royals batsmen will be to maintain their run rate during the middle overs against Imad Wasim, Chris Green and Mohammed Nabi, whose low economy rates have proved difficult for the opposition throughout the tournament.

The Tallawahs’ batting line-up looks well-balanced but is susceptible to collapse against top-quality spinners. Mujeeb Ur Rahman has been a consistent performer for the Royals, while Cornwall and Hayden Walsh provide skipper Mayers with plenty of other spin options.

What’s the news from the camps?

The big concern for Tallawahs will be the fitness of Powerplay specialist Amir. The Pakistani quick was unable to complete his second innings against the Guyana Amazon Warriors following a groin injury and will leave a significant hole in the Jamaican attack if he is unable to play in the final. If he remains unable to play, his obvious replacement would be Migael Pretorius.

What are the odds?

Barbados Royals are favorites at 10/11 while Tallawahs are available at 21/20.

What is the forecast?

The Tallawahs will need to limit Royals’ powerplay shots if they hope to win this game, a problem which will become more difficult if Amir is out through injury. The Tallawahs certainly have the players to compete with the Royals, but the consistent performances of the Barbados side make them favourites. The Royals win.
