Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett has mourned the death of former Minister of State for Tourism, Dr Henry ‘Marco’ Brown.
Brown passed away Thursday morning.
Expressing his condolences to the former minister of state’s family, Bartlett said “Marco was truly a dedicated family man and lover of life”.
“Marco served as Minister of State for Tourism during two terms of the Jamaica Labor Party (JLP) in the 1980s and played his part in building the tourism product very carefully, particularly water sports and community tourism,” said Bartlett.
The minister added that “Jamaica has lost a tourism pioneer who helped lay the foundations of the sector on which we continue to build.” He has made a significant contribution to the tourism industry and his insight and dynamism will be sorely missed.”
Bartlett also praised the former minister of state for his work in the political arena, saying, “he had an indomitable will to fight for the people of St James South, as well as the then St James Central area, in which he served as an adviser under Dr Herbert Eldemire, who served as Minister of Health from 1962 to 1972.

Brown was also hailed for his contribution to education in the parish of St James.
“He was also passionate about early childhood education and built primary schools in several communities in what is now the East Central St James constituency, and for that he should be commended,” Bartlett added.
“His contribution to nation building will never be hidden. Condolences to his son Hank and other relatives and friends. May his soul rest in peace and eternal light shine upon him,” concluded Bartlett.
