Baynes sings to support Farley

Terence Baynes –

THA Secretary for Community Development, Youth Development and Sports Terance Baynes has openly expressed his support for Chief Secretary Farley Augustine and the team in the song.

The six-minute, 24-second calypso samples the beat of Baron’s Feeling It.

In the song, he calls out all Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) assemblymen and councilors except PDP political leader and Roxborough/Argyle representative Watson Duke.

“Come my people, rally around Farley because he was chosen to be chief secretary. I know we will succeed, Tobago say they want Farley’s leadership – I feel it. We’re going to build this land, if all of us put in the country and the city, people want Farley to lead us – we feel it.”

Contacted by Newsday to find out what prompted the song, Baynes declined to speak.

The song was also shared on Facebook by PNM Tobago Council leader Ancil Dennis, who chided Baynes for “singing for his dinner”. He also uploaded an earlier clip of Baynes on the political platform asking Tobagonians to protect Watson Duke.

Baynes’ song comes amid Duke’s resignation as deputy chief secretary and the election of Health, Welfare and Social Protection Secretary Dr Faith BYisrael to the position.

A public spat erupted in the PDP two weeks ago when Duke criticized the THA for “neglecting” 27 members of the Roxborough Folk Performers by leaving them “starving” and allegedly sleeping on the streets in New York.

Agustin has denied Duke’s version of events and has promised to review his responsibilities as deputy chief secretary. Before this conclusion was reached, Duka dismissed Agustin as a PPD deputy and resigned from the portfolio of deputy chief secretary.
