After heavy rain lashed Bengaluru on Wednesday night, former police commissioner Bhaskar Rao advised two-wheeler drivers to be careful on slippery roads. He warned motorists about algae – which can grow from cracks in road surfaces and make roads slippery, even in dry conditions – and other maintenance work taking place on roads in the Karnataka capital.
Rao tweeted, “Beware Bengaluru drivers, especially 2 wheelers, concrete roads in our city have algae, maintenance issues and despite your best tires will slip, be careful (Sic).
He also asked experts to suggest ways to fix and maintain concrete roads in Bengaluru.
“The cement lobby, please educate us too on how these roads should be maintained and what equipment is required, at least the citizens should deal with the Civic Authority…”
Twitter users quickly responded to his post with photos and videos of damaged roads and traffic violations across the city. One user wrote: “Sir, you should strongly express and recommend road repairs considering the current condition in most of the country, including the vehicle parked around for days, the legitimate reason for the exercise (Sic). “
To this Bhaskar Rao replied, “Insolent, unheard, heartless, mindless and senseless. They act only under threat (Sic)” – a not-so-subtle jab at the city’s civic bodies.
Meanwhile, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), BR Ravikanthe Gowda, also offered warnings to two-wheeler drivers – wear helmets. He shared a chilling video of a motorist whose life was saved because of a good quality helmet.
