Biden Nominates New US Ambassador To Guyana

NEWS AMERICAS, NEW YORK, NY, September 8, 2022: The Joe Biden administration has named a new ambassador to the South American CARICOM nation of Guyana to replace current ambassador Sarah Lynch.

Nicole D. Theriot, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Counselor and currently serving as Principal Officer in Karachi, Pakistan, has been appointed to the post as the current ambassador’s term comes to an end.

Theriot faces Senate confirmation.

The Baton Rouge, Louisiana-born player previously served as the Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Prior to that, she was the Director of Immigration and Visa Security at the National Security Council in the Executive Office of the President. Prior to that, she was Senior Advisor to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Overseas Citizen Services in the Bureau of Consular Affairs.

Theriot was also Political Counselor at the US Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan; Principal Officer in Casablanca, Morocco; and Regional Supervising Consular Officer of the Bureau of Consular Affairs in Frankfurt, Germany.

Her overseas assignments have included Chief of Domestic Policy in Islamabad, Pakistan; Consul General in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean; Deputy Chief Consular in Baghdad, Iraq; Chief of Nonimmigrant Visas in Montreal, Canada; Consular Officer in Paris, France; and Information Officer in Lagos, Nigeria. Theriot is the recipient of numerous State Department performance awards, including a Senior Foreign Service Achievement Award.

She holds a BA from Louisiana State University and an MA in International Relations from Vanderbilt University and is fluent in French and Urdu.
