The Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, today received the official report of the Board of Inquiry (BOI), regarding the October 8, 2022 docking of the vessel, Tradewind Passion, at the Demerara Harbor Bridge.
Captain Joseph Lewis – Naval Officer and Ship Surveyor, led the team and formally submitted the report, assuring the Minister that every check had been made. He also indicated that interviews were conducted to collect information for the compilation of the report.
“Being a marine surveyor who deals with international ships, I have very high standards and with this report here I am very impressed, it has met my standard and hopefully it will meet yours, Minister.”
The report was delivered in the presence of other BOI members: Thandi McAllister – Director of Legal Affairs at MARAD, Yolanda Hughes – Board Member and a Staff of the Department of Transport and Ports, Inspector Carlos Ross of the Maritime Division of the Guyana Police Force, Lt. Col. David Shamsudeen – Coast Guard, Patrick Thompson – MOPW Head of Transport and Planning and Dimitri Ali, Member of the Board of Directors of the Guyana National Transport Corporation.
Captain Lewis also expressed the team’s gratitude for the confidence of such a mandate from the minister.
The collision, which occurred in the late hours of Saturday, October 8, rendered the bridge inoperable for more than 40 hours and has cost the government over $1 billion (and counting) to restore the bridge to a working condition. , Minister Edghill told the media on Thursday. The alliance also resulted in DHBC shift supervisor Andy Duka, who was on duty at the bridge at the time, with a broken left leg.
The BOI was given a seven-day deadline to submit their report. They officially launched the investigation last Monday.
