Bolsonaro isolates himself, is silent about the result and asks for time

The president and defeated re-election candidate, Jair Bolsonaro (PL, right), was isolated on Sunday (30 October) after the 2022 election result was announced.

Former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT, left) was elected the 39th president of the Federative Republic of Brazil.

He is the first in history to be elected to this post three times by direct vote. Lula was elected president before, in 2002 and 2006, always in the second round.

According to Poder360, Bolsonaro is isolated inside the Alvorada Palace. He asked his allies not to disturb him. He refused to receive, for example, Minister Adolfo Sachsida (Mining and Energy).

Bolsonaro received the boys, the aide-de-camp, Mauro Cid, and called the Minister of Defense, Paulo Sérgio Nogueira. He also met with Justice and Public Safety Minister Anderson Torrs.

He did not want to wait on any close MPs, senators or members of the campaign staff.

At 22:04, the lights went out in the Alvorada Palace.

National and international media reporters were waiting for the statement of the chief executive but were left without Bolsonaro’s speech.

In the phone call he had with Moraes, the president of the Tirana Stock Exchange informed that the Electoral Justice has been able to announce who has been elected in the election and that he will announce the result. Moraes congratulated both of them for participating in the elections.

The minister did not give details if they talked about other topics. Regarding the call to Bolsonaro, he said that the head of the Executive answered him with “extreme courtesy”.

“President Bolsonaro answered me with extreme politeness, thanked me for the call and that was all. Moraes’ speech about the appeal to the candidates was made during an interview at the headquarters of the Electoral Court at the end of the counting of the elections.

With 99.99% of the votes counted, the Tirana Stock Exchange system shows Lula with 50.90% (60,343,307 votes). Bolsonaro appears with 49.10% (58,205,269 votes).

Bolsonaro has already said he would respect the result of “clean elections”.

In an interview with Jornal Nacional of the Rede Globo television station, he made the statement at the end of August.

Moraes said he sees “no real risk” of contesting the 2022 election result.

“If there are challenges within the rule, they will be analyzed normally.”

THE CONSERVATIVE RIGHT IN THE OPPOSITION

The Bolsonaro clan will still have three political mandates in the seats of the Chief Executive’s sons: until 2026, with Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) in the Senate and Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-PS) in the House; Carlos Bolsonaro (Republican) until 2024 in the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro.

In Congress, the first battle will be in the House and Senate presidencies.

The Bolsonarians want to keep congressman Arthur Lira (PP-AL) and exchange senator Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG).

The country is split down the middle and a climate of polarization should prevail for the next four years.

Bolsonaro’s defeat was considered likely before the final round of voting.

The incumbent had 6,187,159 votes less than Lula in the first round.

The pattern in presidential races is that the candidate who started the race at a significant disadvantage does not manage to get enough votes until the day of the runoff.

This is what happened.

The PL candidate received 51,072,345 votes (43.2% of valid votes) in the first round on October 2. Lula received 57,259,504.

With Sunday’s defeat, the president broke the pattern of elected Brazilian heads of state since 1994 – all have been re-elected for a second term: Fernando Henrique Cardoso (in 1998), Lula (2006) and Dilma Rousseff (2014).

Bolsonaro will leave office at the age of 67 in 2023.

A retired army captain, in 2018 he was the first directly elected military man in Planalto in more than seven decades.
