Bolsonaro talks of taxing the super-rich to maintain Brazil aid for the poorest

President Jair Bolsonaro spoke on Thursday (September 1) of taxing the profits and dividends of those earning more than R$400,000 (US$80,000) a month as a possible alternative to maintaining Brazil’s R$600 aid to 2023.

According to Bolsonaro, the tax proposal of the economic team of Minister Paulo Guedes is 15%, which would be a “very low” tax.

Bolsonaro’s statement was made during his weekly live stream on YouTube.

The president also said that the proposal has not been included in the budget because there is no place for it.
