Bombay Shaving Company CEO Shantanu Deshpande, who had caused quite a stir for his ’18 hours work 18 hours a day’ advice for shavers, has apologized in a ‘recent LinkedIn post’.

After facing criticism from social media for promoting ‘toxic hustle culture’ and ‘glorification of modern slavery’, Deshpande took to LinkedIn once again, but this time, to make his final post and apologize .

Sharing a video of an interview given to a TV channel, he wrote: “This is my last post on LinkedIn. It’s been a good trip. To those who were hurt by my post – I apologize for the same. I recognize the need for nuance and context.

“I didn’t want to add 18 hours to every day. My exaggeration to make a point was taken out of context. I just wanted to give it my all.

“To those who sent vile ‘your son is a slave owner’ messages to my parents and thousands like them – You won,” he added.

According to Deshpande, individuals between the ages of 22 and 28 have maximum and minimum opportunities for responsibility. “After 28, your time goes into a lot of other businesses as you start getting married, your parents grow up and you start having responsibilities. 22-28 is that window where you can give it your all,” he said.

Deshpande came under fire for his controversial career advice given a few days ago. He had suggested to the new employees to work 18 hours a day without arguing about it.

He had posted on LinkedIn: “When you’re 22 and new to your job, jump into it. Eat well and stay fit, but put in 18 hour workdays for at least 4-5 years. I see a lot of young people looking at random content everywhere and convincing themselves that ‘work life balance, spending time with family, rejuvenation blah blah’ is important. It is, but not so early. At first, love your job. Whatever it is. Don’t do random rona-dhona. Take it on the chin and be ruthless. You will be much better at it.”
