Bournemouth Reggae Weekender 2022 at Kings Park in Boscombe

Thousands of people spent the weekend at Kings Park in Boscombe at a reggae festival.

The Bournemouth Reggae Weekender, held from Friday July 29 to Sunday July 31, saw headline acts take to the stage in what was described as a “world of colour, fun and diversity”.

Sunday saw Macka B and the Roots Ragga Band headline the day, with DJ sets from DJ Pepper and Lady Banton.

On Saturday, Aysha Loren headlined as DJ sets from DJs Roy Medallion and Martin Jay delighted the crowd, with Friday seeing headliner DJ Ras Kwame.

The event also raised awareness of prostate cancer, with a charity to be nominated once donations from wristband sales are met.

Event director Ray Nyenje said: “We are doing this as a multi-cultural event that we do every year where we get African and Caribbean artists to come and play their reggae music.

“This is the second year and it has proven to be more popular. Given the way we were doing things, the last time we were coming in as a new entrant.

“Now we are much more flexible, the formation is much tighter and we are even busier this time. Artists are doing 30 minutes to allow everyone, and the team is getting bigger.

“We also had the police and the PKK Council sponsoring us – everyone is supporting the project.

“We’re expecting 5,000 to 10,000 people to be here over the three days over the weekend.

“Yesterday like a lot of fun, started slow but started to pick up as the day went on.”

The event featured several commercial stands, many selling CDs and vinyl, as well as food vans selling Caribbean food.
