About Veronica Oliveira
Veronica Oliveira started her company with just $30, the cost of the ingredients for the first stuffed tapioca, which she made to sell to friends and acquaintances. It was only supposed to last two weeks, but it never stopped and became a solid business to this day, with annual revenue of $1.5 million.
The Bahian who came to the United States of America in 2009, with the dream of prosperity, worked for 4 years cleaning houses, offices and banks, to stay in the country. However, what he really enjoyed was cooking, so after cleaning, he came up with the idea of making stuffed tapioca for friends and customers, to increase the family’s income. In 2015, Verônica bought a restaurant, BR Takeout, focused on Minas Gerais and Northeastern food, in the city of Framingham-Massachusetts.
Verônica learned how to make the delicacy with her mother and grandmother in the hinterlands of Bahia, and years later she bet that gum is a versatile food that can be combined with different fillings. Today she owns a vegan, gluten-free, sugar-free, preservative-free and sodium-free tapioca factory, sold in several locations in Massachusetts and with distribution throughout the United States. Oliveira employs 16 direct employees and 50 indirect employees. In addition to running two companies, she also mentors women who want to venture and start over, just like her.
“It’s not how much you know, it’s how much you apply and there’s no luck. Luck is working, not giving up, making mistakes, failing along the way, until you get it right,” revealed the millionaire from Bahia.
