Kes the Band and Jamaican dancehall artist Popcaan have been added to the cast Burna Boy Live in Trinidad. The anticipated concert will be held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain on Friday, December 16.

Burna Boy whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu is bringing his Love Damini tour not only to Trinidad but also to Antigua and Jamaica this December. In October, the high-profile Nigerian-born artiste performed in Tobago for the Tobago Carnival Experience. Despite the inclement weather, the “Last Last” singer took to the stage and performed for the raucous fans who braved the thunder. Next week on Friday, the artist will be joined by two of the Caribbean’s most adored artists, Kees Dieffenthaller with his group, Kes The Band, and Jamaican dancehall sensation, Popcaan.

The show is being jointly promoted by Twisted Entertainment, Duke Concept and SM Entertainment. Twisted Entertainment’s Crystal Cunningham believes Burna Boy’s music has captivated audiences around the globe, referring to the artist as “one of the biggest artists on the planet right now.” “We wanted to bring that infectious energy and vibe of Afro-fusion with Burna Boy to the shores of Trinidad,” she explained, noting that the addition of Popcaan to the cast comes at a time when the pair are enjoying the buzz arising from their collaboration on the song TAS , which is included in Burna’s album, Love Damini.

The artist’s album is nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best Global Music Album and he is also nominated for Best Global Music Performance for the song “Last Last”.

Osita Francis Ugeh of Duke Concept, the entity that promoted Burna Boy’s first concert, said the tour is in line with his company’s aim to unite African cultures. “The project is something that we hope is ongoing, that helps the culture and helps blend the relationship between sounds from the African continent and those from the other side of the world. It’s about bridging the gap.” He added that he believes such collaborative efforts not only bring African creators together, but can also increase cultural exports from the respective territories. “It’s also about supporting the artists that come from here, because the only way to export something is when we first enjoy the music and support the creators.”

With many fans in Trinidad, the event is expected to attract a large number of people. A day after the concert was announced, online ticket sales were said to have been extremely successful, with the first batch of tickets said to have sold out almost as soon as they became available.
