Burnham’s Hillview Carnival Club in final countdown to carnival’s return

The Burnham-On-Sea team and Hillview Carnival Club in Highbridge are making final preparations to take part in the return of the carnival season.

The impressive Hillview carriage, dubbed ‘Children of the Revolution’, is nearing completion at its building shed in Highbridge, where the team are adding the finishing touches, as shown here.

12 children will perform in the carriage and over 20 volunteers have been working on the entrance construction for several months.

The carriage will make its first appearance at Bridgwater Carnival on Saturday 5 November, followed on Monday 7 November by Burnham-On-Sea Carnival.

Speaking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, the club’s Julia Rosser says: “We are very proud to present our ‘Children of the Revolution’ entry for this year’s carnival season. The theme on this year’s trolley sees our children thrust into a Victorian world where they have to work for their dinner in a world of heavy machinery and dirty conditions.”

“We’ve had some very difficult years where Covid prevented us from building and performing, and then we lost a lot of members. We’ve made it through those dark times and have 12 kids coming back to perform along with 6 new members as young as seven.”

“Our build team has developed and grown and we have a great quality cart to entertain you with this year. The atmosphere in our shelter has been amazing with only a little sleep until Bridgwater Carnival on 5th November!”

“We are eternally grateful to the local businesses who continue to support us and to everyone who has taken part in our fundraising events – without you, the children would not have a pram to play with! We hope to see as many of you clapping and cheering us on, especially if it rains, as it means so much to us to know that you appreciate what we do.”

The Burnham-On-Sea Carnival Procession starts at 7.30pm on Monday 7 November, while the Fireworks Display on Burnham seafront will be held on Sunday 6 November.
