Cariah, Pierre skittle South for 142

Yannic Cariah and Khary Pierre went south cheaply on the opening day of the Soca Kings North-South Classic on Thursday at the National Cricket Centre.

Cariah took 4 for 28 in 11.3 overs, while Pierre took 3 for 42 in 15 overs as South were bowled out for 142 after a torturous 60.3 overs.

There were bright spots for South, who were in deep water at 27 for 3 before Jyd Goolie came to the crease.

The former West Indies U19 player made 29 with Jason Mohammed (27), 33 with Kyle Kissondath (14) and 37 with skipper Imran Khan (11).

However, after Goolie was dismissed by Isaiah Rajah for 53, South slumped from 129 for 7 to 142 all out.

North added salt to the wounds on the opening day, closing on 46 for no loss in 19 appearances.

Keagan Simmons hit 25 off 54 balls, while Vikash Mohan anchored the partnership with 9 off 61 balls.

Northern tracks by 96 runs going into the second day of play at Balmain.

The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board is hosting the North-South Classic for the first time in four years.

The match, which was last held in 2019, has not been held for nine years.
