The New York-based Western American Indian Day Carnival Association (WIADCA) has released the lineup for Carnival Week, beginning Thursday, September 1.
WIADCA, which organizes the annual carnival parade in Brooklyn’s East Park, says the activities will kick off with the Vibes with Voicey Concert.
“On Carnival Monday, we hit the streets. Suits, registrations and valid permits according to all rules and regulations (regulations) are essential to participate, with priority given to safety and COVID masking measures.”
WIADCA said, this year, its cultural partner and presenters are “working tirelessly to bring the authentic Caribbean carnival spectacle back to the streets”.
He said Carnival 2022 participating groups and cultural leaders are presenting a series of costumed masterpieces.
Except for the Labor Day Carnival Parade, all events take place on the grounds of the Brooklyn Museum.
“This year our return to the park (Eastern Parkway) inspires us to continue the cultural work on behalf of the community, the city, the state and our partners,” said Michelle Gibbs-Francis, Guyanese-born president of the WIADCA.
“Without them, especially the mas and pan groups, we wouldn’t be here today. Our losses were difficult, but we stood stronger together to overcome them by providing for others and producing some impactful programs in the community for youth, adults and seniors.
“In terms of our COVID protocols, we have some guidelines in place to verify vaccination and temperature checks,” she added.
