Caribbean: The Caribbean island, often considered as the region of North America, consists of many beautiful places. Tourists visited the region as it hosts several festivals and tournaments. One such tournament called the Caribbean Premier League is all set to return to the shores of the West Indies.

The Caribbean Premier League is known as a six-team domestic T20 competition that has been running since 2013. The month-long tournament is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, August 31 and end on September 30. The matches will be played on the grounds of St Kitts and Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago, and Saint Lucia and the play-offs will be hosted by Guyana.

Six teams will participate in the tournament and each team will be named after different Caribbean countries. The T20 cricket match will begin with the first match between last year’s champions St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Jamaica Tallawahs.

The competition will last a little longer than last year. However, Cricket West Indies hosted the brand new T10 competition called 6ixty. The competition will be further followed by the CPL season as it starts on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 and will end on Sunday, August 28, 2022.

The competition will follow the same trend as several franchise tournaments, and the six teams will compete against each other twice in the group stage. Teams will further receive two points for a win, one will be awarded for a draw and zero will be awarded for a loss.

The playoffs will be played by the teams that will emerge as the best four. There is a slight difference from last year’s elimination stage.

In this year’s Qualifier, it will witness the competition between the two main teams; on the other hand, the third and fourth place teams will battle it out in an Eliminator. The winner of Qualifier 1 will play the final match directly, while the loser will be relegated to the Eliminator in Qualifier 2.

The winner of Qualifier 2 will meet the winner of Qualifier 1 in the finals to determine the winners.

There will be four venues for CPL 2022, and Warner Park in St Kitts and Nevis will host the opening seven matches of the tournament. After that, the start of the matches will be moved to Saint Lucia. Saint Lucia will witness the next eight matches of the series at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground.

Trinidad’s Queen Park Oval will host matches 16 to 23 before the final seven group matches and the play-offs are hosted in Guyana at the Providence Stadium.

The name of the six teams that will compete in CPL 2022 is as follows: Founding members Barbados Royals (formerly Barbados Tridents), Guyana Amazon Warriors, St Lucia Kings (formerly St Lucia Zouks), Jamaica Tallawahs, Trinbago Knight Riders and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots who joined the competition in 2015.

Among all the teams, Trinbago Knight Riders remained the most successful team and won the trophy four times in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2020. The inaugural champions Jamaica Tallawahas remained champions for two years, both 2013 and 2016, and Barbados. for two years, which are 2014 and 2019.

Further, the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots remained champions for the last year and defeated the Saint Lucia Kings. Both teams have appeared in the finals only twice.

The Caribbean Premier League will witness various overseas players like

Imran Tahir (Guyana) and Faf du Plessis (St Lucia) are returning to this year’s competition. Barbados Royals players like Tabraiz Shamsi are also set to return.

Further, the foreign players will be New Zealand trio Colin Munro, Tim Seifert (both Trinbago), prolific Pakistani bowler Mohammed Amir (Jamaica); David Wiese (Saint Lucia); and up-and-coming Singaporean talent Tim David (Saint Lucia).
