The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) said on Monday that the group is ‘very concerned’ about the continued deterioration of the security situation and social circumstances in Haiti.
“The ongoing breakdown of law and order, and its disturbing effect on the people of Haiti, is intensifying,” CARICOM said in a statement.
And the statement indicated that the inability of Haitian security forces to deal with the ongoing violence made the situation worse.
According to CARICOM, the unrest is negatively impacting Haiti’s already weak economy, leading to even more massive demonstrations.

In particular, deteriorating social conditions and limited food availability require urgent and immediate attention from the international community, CARICOM said.
“This persistently worrying situation is unsustainable,” the regional grouping noted.
He called for meaningful engagement by all stakeholders to find a way forward, put Haiti first and urgently address the situation.
“CARICOM, following discussions in recent weeks, remains available to assist and work with international partners to mobilize financial and technical resources to facilitate a process towards normalization and ultimately the holding of free, fair and credible general elections “, the statement says.

Media reports indicate that around 200 heavily armed factions are estimated to be digging in the capital, Port-au-Prince.
